What is the "Set System"?

Why is it used in physical training?

Finally, the answers to these questions and more!

Have you ever questioned why the repetitions you use in your training are grouped together into “sets”? Has anyone ever explained to you just how and why they arrive at the number of “reps” and “sets” in their training? Or, has anyone ever explained to you which exercises should have high reps or sets and which ones should have low reps or sets? Confusing? Well, look no further! This is the book that will answer all your questions, and more.

Young Tom DeLorme started lifting weights at 16 in 1932. After quickly becoming disenchanted with traditional methods of weightlifting, he set out to develop his own system of progressive resistance exercise.

When World War II broke out, the shortage of hospital beds for injured soldiers prompted the need for speedier rehabilitation. This lead to the development of an accelerated exercise therapy based on heavy resistance exercise. DeLorme, by then an orthopedic surgeon, applied his methods with great success.

Progressive Resistance Exercise

Technic and Medical Application

Later, in 1951, Dr. Thomas L. DeLorme M.D. and Arthur L. Watkins M.D. published their findings in this book. A book so simple, forthright, and unassuming that it had only one edition and quickly disappeared into obscurity. The explanation for the age old mystery in modern day progressive resistance training is here. Order a copy today and quickly discover why this book should be in every weight trainee’s library.

“No one should be allowed to touch a barbell without, first,
having read this book cover to cover!”

  • Here's What People Are Saying About
    Progressive Resistance Exercise:

"Hi Bill, Very interesting. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you making Progressive Resistance Exercise by DeLorme and Watkins available, I ordered my copy as much out of curiosity as anything else, expecting not much more than an interesting history lesson at best. Ha. One of the most practically informative and useful books in my collection. May I ask if they are selling well? Have not yet made it to the Master Method..., but am looking forward to it. Thank-you again, trust all is well,"
    Simon H.
    Culver City, California

"Finally, the answers to my questions about sets and reps. No one I've ever talked to seemed to know what is contained in this book."
    K. A.
    Needham, Massachusetts

"Thank you for Progressive Resistance Exercise by DeLorme and Watkins. I really like their scientific approach."
    J. B.
    Chester, Illinois

"Just received my order and love your books! I especially like Progressive Resistance Exercise by DeLorme and Watkins. I never knew this book existed! Thanks a million, Bill!"
    D. C.
    St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada

"I really appreciate you sending me the 'landmark' book, Progressive Resistance Exercise by DeLorme and Watkins. This is really a classic, and a forerunner inspirations of many of the exercise machines & therapies in use today."
    J. S.
    Garner, North Carolina

"Just a line to say thanks for Progressive Resistance Exercise by DeLorme and Watkins. It is a great addition to my PC library. I had always been curious about it since Vince Gironda often used to refer to it back in the day. It is far more academic than I had ever imagined and that alone makes it more worthwhile than other more 'glamourous' books on the subject as the information is plain hard fact. I remember once I asked Vince Gironda a training question and in an effort to get me to think for myself he told me to get my Gray's Anatomy out and study how things work. So I would put these two books in the same category."
    N. S.
    Devonshire, Bermuda

"...I did buy Progressive Resistance Exercise by DeLorme and Watkins already and honestly, if you really take the time to read it and apply it to yourself as an athlete instead of rehab, its a GREAT book, one of my favorites. Have a great day!"
    Sonny
    Runnemede, New Jersey

"Thank you for the email on Progressive Resistance Exercise by DeLorme and Watkins. I have already purchased it from you and enjoyed it very much."
